Cultural Immersion

At Somaya Retreats, we believe that cultural immersion is more than just experiencing the local culture. It’s about gaining a deep appreciation for the importance and value of nature and wildlife that is a vital part of the society and their traditions. To offer an immersive and foundational experience , we offer elephant conservation programs at Airavata Elephant Foundation, as well as visits to the 1,000-year-old volcanic lake in Cambodia — the Yak Loum Crater Lake.

Elephant Conservation Program:

Our participants become actively involved in the elephant training program and assist in preparing food with the conservatory staff. The programme is designed to help raise awareness about threatened species and wildlife extinction, preserve and care for these amazing animals all while you engage with interactive workshops.

1,000-Year-Old Volcanic Lake Visit:

Participants visit this magnificent of natural wonder situated at the Yak Loum Crater Lake to learn the cultural heritage and belief in the mythology and this natural wonder. Guided by team, you will explore the folklore and origin stories relating it to cultural norms of the locals living nearby to provide for an interactive learning experience about sacred bodies of water in general. And to end the experience we provide a water blessing in the lake which is considered a sacred experience by locals.

This will be an extraordinary opportunity to fully engage and embrace these hidden gems that lay secret in the kingdom of wonder. It also is carefully crafted to help transition our participants from the womb of ayahuasca ceremonies back into the real world. Reverse culture shock is well documented after leaving healing retreats having a space in between going home and ceremonies is vital.

Join us on a transformative and riveting cultural retreat at Somaya Retreats – designed to help participants connect with the sacredness of these various terrains, as it offers a unique opportunity to experience the preservation of this essential culture, wildlife, and nature.
